Waverly Elementary Science Fair
Register to participate.
All scientists must register their projects in advance. This is not mandatory participation. Use this online form or email Bridget Kotchick at bkotchick@scrantonprep.com. Final registration deadline is March 20th.
Projects should be student driven.
Project ideas should come from the students, and the project should be driven by them. Parents should use their best judgment in deciding when to get involved, such as when there is a potential safety issue. For especially young kids, parents may provide some guidance, but it is important that the kids be able to call the project their own.
Working with someone else.
You may work on your project independently, or you may optionally work with a partner who is also a student at Waverly Elementary, for example, a classmate or a sibling.
Need help choosing a topic? Web sites for Science ideas!
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic. Check out our Need an IDEA page

More about the Scientific Method
The scientific method is not required but using it makes your experiment more scientific! Check out the Scientific Method Page
Judging and awards.
Our science fair is non-competitive, as our goal is simply to encourage scientific exploration and discovery and promote a deep lifelong passion for science. Each participant should be ready to talk about their project to everyone walking by on the night of the fair.
Volunteers needed!
A big event like the science fair wouldn't be possible without the help of numerous volunteers. Please sign up when you register your student if you can help set up, clean up, or during one of the two sessions. Thank you!
Project Boards
Project boards are not required but may be purchased at local craft stores for a nominal fee. Boards cannot be ordered through school.
Set up and Clean-up
Please put your name on the back of all projects in large print.
Also label other items not on your board.
Important - No live animals are allowed and keep in mind food allergies.
Set-up after school Monday March 23, 2020, 4-5pm.
Removal after school Tuesday, March 24, from 2:55-4:30 or can be sent home with the student.
All projects remaining after this will be discarded.
***Please note***
If you choose a "messy" project you must stay until the end of the night on Monday to clean it up. You are also responsible for additional clean-up on Tuesday. SO ... choose wisely.
